Former soap star’s PETA poster makes waves – as does the unveiling
It wouldn’t be in the interests of the average British tabloid to promote a poster to support the efforts of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), but when it happens to be the newly-crowned FHM Sexiest Woman of the Year – with no clothes on, nonetheless – then it’s the scoop they know and love.
The fact that Helen Flanagan, the former Coronation Street star in question, turned up wearing a barely-there corset at the poster’s launch made reporters for the Sun and Daily Mail wonder if there would be two unveilings that were print-worthy. Just to be on the safe side, they made sure to take as many shots of the actress anyway.
While the display of desperation for fame was pretty obvious in the extensive multi-shot stories hitting tabloid websites, the nude shoot that Helen participated in for PETA was comparably restrained. The poster, which will hit billboards around the country in the coming weeks, features the 22-year-old sprawled over a rock in the jungle, with her skin re-patterned to look like that of a snake. Alongside it was the phrase “Exotic skins belong in the jungle” – a reference to her time in the show “I’m a Celebrity⦠Get Me Out of Here!”
Naturally, the Sun said that Helen was “keeping abreast of important issues”, though everyone knows the heavy-handed pun truly underlined the two issues they were there to see.
