Ben Kingsley goes to print ahead of Iron Man 3 release
As one of Britain’s most flexible actors, Ben Kingsley has played a remarkable number of roles for the silver screen, from Indian nationalist pacifist Mohandas Gandhi to the frankly psychotic sociopath Don Logan of Sexy Beast fame. Fitting more into the latter dark role in his newest film, Kingsley is now in print, and on a billboard near you, for his role in the latest comic book flick.
Sitting in a chair looking particularly suspicious, the Yorkshire-born actor stars as the Mandarin, one of the greatest foes of the titular superhero in the upcoming movie Iron Man 3. Wearing the typical robes of the longest-serving rival of Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark/Iron Man alter egos, the Mandarin was set to face off against his foe in the original film, though Ironmonger (Jeff Bridges) was chosen instead.
As far as posters go, however, it gives a lot away – but not the whole story. As the leader of an international terrorist organisation, it’s understandable that he dons camouflage gear and army boots, though the silk garb that goes over the top plays much more to the bad guy’s heritage. However, the cleverly-cropped image printed for billboard and bus stop-style posters misses one key feature: the mask of Iron Man at his feet!
