A visually-stunning image created by a talented Scottish teenager will be part of a major exhibition at the Museum of Childhood over the next few months, after it was selected for an honour.

Molly Williamson animated a picture of a woman holding an umbrella to win the Glasgow and Clyde Valley leg of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society’s Schools Poster Competition.

Fringe judges wanted students to encapsulate the ethos of their gathering; chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society Kath M Mainland said of the entry: “Molly’s design came top of all entries from Glasgow and the Clyde Valley as it met the judges’ criteria of being fun, eye-catching, colourful and encapsulating the feel of the Fringe. This is a terrific achievement and something to be very proud of.”

Molly, from Bonnybridge, attends St Mungo’s High School in Falkirk but also regularly spends time with the Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairments in Cumbernauld , due to the fact she lives with cerebral palsy. Her mother, Caroline, was delighted that her daughter proved that her condition is in no way a barrier to her creativity.

“Because of her condition she can’t participate in a lot of things,” she told the Falkirk Herald. “She has trouble walking, but with this she could sit and do things at her own pace and played to her own strengths. A lot of people have asked if she took inspiration from Andy Warhol because it’s similar to his art, but she said she just did her own thing which makes it even more amazing.”
