Leaflet campaign assists police in murder hunt
Following the fatal stabbing of an Essex teenager, police detectives have doubled their efforts to find those responsible and have spearheaded their campaign by handing out leaflets to find the murder weapon.
Jay Whiston from Clacton was just 17 when he died during a party in Marlowe Way, Colchester. The get-together had been organised via Facebook but was not done privately, and resulted in dozens of people turning up and wreaking havoc on the house – resulting in a number of injuries in the process.
Since the fateful evening, police have found a number of knives in the local area, though none of them are believed to have been used to stab Jay; police therefore ran with their print campaign. The hand-outs are being passed around people in the Lexden area, and specifically urge gardeners to be vigilant.
Det Ch Insp Anne Cameron said: “We are still missing the murder weapon, which is why we’re making another concerted effort to find it with the help of Colchester residents. Should they find a knife in their garden, then they should leave it in situ and contact us.”
Since the incident, seven people from Colchester have been arrested in the murder investigation and are on police bail until May 22nd.
